This session is recommended for those students interested in a part time shoeing program. Students will learn to shoe horses with factory made shoes as well as hand made shoes. This session includes learning intermediate anatomy, conformational defects, faulty gaits, and proper shoeing techniques. The instructors will teach proper horse handling, trimming, squaring toes, making flat shoes, bar shoes, clips, heel caulks, trailers, forge brazing and welding, and using pads. Students will also learn to help correct conformational defects and gait problems with corrective shoes.
Students are responsible for all assignments and homework. All tools will be furnished for students. Students are required to furnish the textbook, The Principles of Horseshoeing (P3), the textbook is available for purchase at the school for $150.00. Total number of hours in course: 210 hrs.
